The collection
BLACKYAK categorizes their apparel into three distinct lines that represent the three yaks that are found in the Himalaya.
Maiwa line: The Maiwa Yak lives on hilly plateaus up to 3500 meters in altitude. It is not bothered by cold temperatures, snow or rain. The maiwa line offers excellent clothing for hiking, trekking and training.
Sibu line: At altitudes of up to 4500 meters, the Sibu Yak has proven to be more adaptable at coping with tough and extreme conditions such as annual average temperatures of 0°c and large quantities of rain, sleet and snow.
Pali line: The Pali Yak lives in Tibet at around 5000 meters. Within the pali line, you will find expedition ready clothing that has been developed for the most extreme conditions.

YAK SEAL™ cuffs, hood and hemline are the weakest points on a garment when trying to keep the wearer dry. The YAK SEAL™ technology reduces moist ingress significantly in these areas. The YAK SEAL™ technology consists of several techniques.

YAK HOOKS™ bring added durability, ease of use and visual appeal to the cuff area of BLACKYAK’s garments. The unique design of the hooks minimize abrasion and pilling while the pre-curved finish ensures the cuff tap always rests in the closed position. |
YAK BOX-WALL™
 |
YAK BOX-WALL™ is an innovative construction for down jackets. Which de-couples the cold exterior of a textile from the insulation layer. Using this technique, thermal efficiency of the product is significantly increased. The YAK BOX-WALL™ performance is further enhanced through the use of chamber-to-chamber transfer channels. This allows warm air inside the garment to move from chamber to chamber rather than venting to the atmosphere, as is the case with traditional insulation manufacturing methods. |
YAK FLOW™

It is understood through field and laboratory tests that fabrics with an air permeability of less than 6L/m2/s provide the same protection against heat loss as a fabric with 0L/m2/s. With BLACKYAK’s YAK FLOW™ textiles they have engineered an optimal permeability to keep wind-chill and therefore heat loss at a minimum, while maximizing the mass transfer of moisture through the textile. |

Bakosi jacket

Pali line The Bakosi is an intelligent insulated jacket that takes “body mapped” insulation to a whole new level. BLACKYAK uses 750 fill RDS goose down throughout the upper part of the body for maximum warmth, Primaloft Gold® on the lower parts of the arm and belt areas, Polartec® Alpha® on the back panel for maximum stretch and Polartec Power Grid® fleece on the tuck-away hood. Cordura® ripstop and 4-way stretch are utilized on the face fabrics for unmatched durability. |
Nelore jacket

Insulated with 700 fill RDS goose down, Cordura® fleece and Polartec Power Grid® fleece, the Nelore will keep you warm on those chilly mornings. The down is also treated with a hydrophobic coating to add a layer of water resistance to the down. The Nelore has Cordura® 4-way stretch down the sides and underarms for mobility and the rest of the jacket is encased in a Cordura® ripstop outer fabric. |
Niata jacket

Pali line When it comes to thermal efficiency, the Niata jacket sets the bar. This jacket is constructed using BLACKYAK down stretch zones which combine materials and YAK BOX-WALL™ construction to allow greater range of movement while maintaining a high level of thermal efficiency. YAK BOX-WALL™ construction allows heat to move throughout the jacket while keeping the 750 fill RDS goose down in place. You will also find G-Loft® synthetic down in high compression areas. All of this insulation is protected by a Cordura® ripstop outer fabric. |
Betizu hoody

Maiwa line The Betizu hoody is an incredibly functional piece with a more casual look. BLACKYAK mixes high loft fleece with Cordura® to provide incredibly durable warmth. At the core of the hoody, Cordura® 4-way stretch fabric makes this hoody abrasion resistant without constricting torso movement. With the Betizu hoody, non-stretch seams are a thing of the past.
